The Garmin CIRQA is an unreleased, screenless recovery band that requires a separate hardware purchase and an ongoing subscription. GPS and Tracking Accuracy
GPS tracking is not relevant to either product's core purpose. Neither the CIRQA nor Body Battery is designed for training navigation. Body Battery uses activity data from the host watch, which may include GPS-derived metrics on supported devices, but GPS does not feed into the recovery score directly.
For recovery scoring accuracy, both products rely on wrist optical PPG sensors to capture HRV. PPG measures blood volume changes via LED light, not electrical impulses. This is the same fundamental technology and the same fundamental limitation: wrist optical HRV is less precise than a chest strap ECG, particularly during activity. At rest and during sleep, accuracy is more reliable, which is where recovery metrics matter most.
Body Battery has years of algorithm refinement behind it and a large real-world user base. The CIRQA's algorithm performance is unverified because independent testing has not been published.
Battery Life
Body Battery performance depends entirely on the host Garmin watch. A Vivosmart 5 delivers around 7 days. A Forerunner 265 runs approximately 13 days in smartwatch mode. A Fenix 7 Solar can push well beyond 18 days. The range is wide.
The CIRQA has no confirmed battery specification. Garmin has not published figures, and no independent tests exist. For a screenless recovery band competing with Whoop 5.0, a reasonable expectation would be 4 to 7 days, but that is speculation. Buying a device for battery life you cannot verify is a real risk.
For Athletes: Who Wins?
- Running: Body Battery on a host watch wins outright. You get GPS, pace data, HRV-based readiness, and post-run recovery tracking in one device. The CIRQA adds no running functionality.
- Trail and multisport: Same answer. The CIRQA has no GPS, no altimeter, and no training tracking. Body Battery integrated into a Fenix or Forerunner covers all of this.
- 24/7 recovery monitoring: The CIRQA is the better concept here, worn separately from a training watch so you are not forced to charge both devices at the same time. In practice, this advantage is theoretical until the device ships and real-world accuracy is tested.
- Garmin ecosystem users: Body Battery already syncs natively with Garmin Connect, Training Readiness, and HRV Status. The CIRQA promises tighter integration with the same ecosystem, but that promise is unverified.
Verdict
Buy the watch that runs Body Battery. It is a proven, free feature available today across a wide price range, and it integrates with every other Garmin metric you are already tracking. The CIRQA is an unshipped product with unconfirmed battery life, unconfirmed pricing, a subscription requirement, and zero independent performance data.
If you already own a Garmin watch and Body Battery feels insufficient, the gap it leaves is real: wearing your training watch 24/7 means charging conflicts and a bulkier device during sleep. The CIRQA targets exactly that problem. But an unverified solution to a real problem is not a reason to spend money yet.
Wait for CIRQA reviews before committing. For now, Body Battery on any mid-range Garmin watch is the clear practical choice for the vast majority of users.
